Top Picks: Local Authentic Mexican Food

We chose a curated selection of our favorite local authentic Mexican eateries. These are the places that transport me to my abuelitas' kitchen, where every dish feels like home. They also all happen to be owned and operated by Mexican women! Adding an extra layer of warmth and authenticity to your experience. Let's delve in.

La Generala:

Where a grand Mexican buffet awaits. From rich, velvety mole to hearty guisados, crispy tostadas, comforting sopas, and freshly made tortillas, every dish is * chefs kiss. Set amidst serene gardens surroundings within a charming building, this place is a must for breakfast or lunch. It’s also located on the same street as Cien Palmas!

Quesadillas Munez:

The locals favorite spot. While their namesake dish steals the spotlight (quesadillas), their menu offers an array of options, including tortas and the best Caldo De Rez in town. With extended hours until 12:30am, it's the perfect spot for a late-night craving fix. My go to order - Carne asada, con frijoles quesadilla.

La Cenaduria:

A quaint spot located on a dirt road that embodies the spirit of a traditional Cenaduria found in bustling Mexican cities. Open until 10:30pm, this little eatery offers the best tostadas, enchiladas, pozole, sopes, and tacos dorados. If I had to choose, I would say this is my favorite spot of all 4. The food, the service, Juan Gabriel music playing from the kitchen, I love it all. Ps. don't forget your cash – it's cash-only!

Guisados Rossy:

Every day brings a surprise as the menu rotates with authentic guisados that capture the essence of Mexican home cooking. Indulge in favorites like mole, tender bistek, and savory chicharron, all served with a generous side of beans, rice, and handmade tortillas. Open till 3pm and accepting cash only, Rossy always promises a hearty meal.

BONUS | La Garita:

Located just a 20-minute drive from Todos Santos towards La Paz, this gem offers an authentic taste of Comida Choyera, the traditional regional cuisine of Baja California Sur. It stands in the middle of the desert, enhancing the unique dining experience. The expansive property is home to various farm animals, adding to its rustic charm and historical richness. A visit here is a must!

We hope you love these places as much as we do, these cherished spots offer an authentic taste of Mexico, alongside the warmth of local hospitality. Tip: Before your trip to Mexico, take the opportunity to learn a few essential Spanish words and phrases, not only does it enhance your travel experience, but it also shows respect to the locals. ¡Buen provecho!
